Jonathan Spyer on Law Reform, Loewenstein

Jonathan Spyer is a Middle East analyst, author and journalist specializing in the Levant and Iraq. He is the director of the Middle East Center for Reporting and Analysis (MECRA), a Research Fellow at the Jerusalem Center for Strategy and Security and a Fellow at the Middle East Forum.

Spyer spoke to Dr Sheree Trotter at the University of Oxford’s Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy. He addressed the current controversy in Israel over judicial reform and what he thinks needs to happen.

He commented on the thesis of Anthony Loewenstein’s book that cynically accuses Israel of using the Palestinians as guinea pigs in the development of a weapons and surveillance industry.

Jonathan also considers the way in which the western media portrays the Israel Palestinian conflict as uniquely problematic, when in fact it shares similar features to many of the conflicts in the Middle East.
