Two years ago we established the Indigenous Coalition for Israel, in order to stand in solidarity with Jews as the indigenous people of Israel and to stand against antisemitism. Never in my worst nightmare did I envisage that both these facets would come to the fore in the way they have, after the horrendous tragedy that befell Israel on 7 October. Even before Israel had had time to identify their victims, a process that is still ongoing, the world erupted in condemnation of Israel. The main justification for this ideological attack on Israel was the propagation of the false narrative that “Jews are foreign colonizers who have dispossessed the indigenous Palestinians”. Even if it were true, (it is not), it would not justify the mass sadism that occurred on that dark day. However, much of the world has turned a blind eye to the atrocities and now the call for ceasefire is increasing.
The past two months have kept us busy as we’ve responded to the crises, challenged indigenous leaders and supported our Jewish friends.
